The other day the Cavata Armada made its way into Boston to see Three Legged Fox- a roots/rock/reggae quartet hailing from Wallingford, PA.
Normally, I’m a little hesitant when it comes to “jam bands” of sorts but this group, thankfully, did not fall into the trap of 20 minute solos to fill a set. In actuality, Three Legged Fox brought out the best aspects of reggae and roots music and combined it with a rock edge that had the crowd dancing and paying attention rather than treating the music like background noise. Each band member was instrumentally on point and lead singer, Kyle’s, vocals were sweet yet powerful when the song called for it. I especially liked lead guitarist, Mike’s, solos because he made every note count, giving space when it was needed and extra emphasis on certain notes to bring out the emotion of the axe. Just because you can shred or hit the highest notes doesn’t mean it makes for the best music. I give the performance 2 thumbs up and on top of a great show the guys in the band turned out to be exceptionally nice peoples!
Make sure to catch these guys at one of their upcoming MA gigs. The Cavata crew and I are going to Maximum Capacity in Chicopee tomorrow night to see 3LF open for Mighty Mystic & Fear Nuttin Band who are having an album rease party. Come hang out & if you mention you read this blog post I might even buy you a drink (but not if you order that brew Juice ordered last night that smells like horse raddish & ass).
