If you know me, read this blog or follow @CavataClothing on Twitter then you’d know I am a hip-hop/soul music junkie. I love and appreciate all genres of music but there is some inexplicable, intangible magical element of ”the groove” that takes ahold of me and makes me feel like no other sound can. I especially love mixing soul with instrumental hip-hop, expanding on the percussion and giving the tune a little attitude. So when I find a singer/group/band who can combine tight musicianship with a level of feel that radiates from the speakers…I gotta spread the love.

They released their incredible debut album, “The Night Cafe,” back in ‘08, completely self-produced & engineered by the band. I actually met the guys in Benedict Arnold at UMass Lowell where we all went to college and most of the band members were Sound Recording Technology majors which definitely came in handy when it came time to hit the studio. My old band, Ivy Hill, and BA would always play a few shows together throughout the school year. Typically when you think of college bands in Massachusetts one might think of hippie jam bands or hardcore shows but we really tried to bring back some funk-groove to campus.
BA band members: Buxton Shippy (MC), Sage Atwood (Guitar and vox), Jesse Brayman (Drums), Sean Cahalin (Bass), and Dan Bolton (Keys).
I highly recommend checking out this group…like now…no, seriously…go to www.benedictarnoldmusic.com can’t get enough of it.
