Meet A-tak, a young MC from Massachusetts. In 2003 he started online battle rapping but after just one summer of freestyle battle rapping, he quit, thinking that was the end of that phase in his life. In January of 2005, the bug bit him again and he started writing, eventually recording his first song in May of 2005.
In the fall of 2005, A-tak met Kapp and joined up with Addiktz Records. They had a digital record label consisting of Kapp, M Dot, A-tak, IVS and Krazy Lyrical and in April 2006, A-tak released his first album, “Insubordinate.” A year later, A-tak released his second album “Commercial Break” which was not only sold locally but also in Los Angeles and Wyoming. The buzz was spreading and Addiktz Records hype was getting bigger and bigger. Eventually, they hit 100,000 plays on their soundclick.com page and by June of 2007 A-tak already had another 10 songs ready for his next album.
After problems arose with fellow label mates not being able to perform at a talent show, A-tak had to learn the routine by himself. He was “nervous as hell and about ready to throw up” but just as he was called on stage two girls said, “Your song is awesome!” and started to sing the song word for word.
Through life’s up and downs, A-tak persevered and continued writing. He put out another record in August of 2012, nearly 3 years after his previous release, which sparked a relationship between A-tak and local rapper, Booda. Together, they created a power group consisting of A-tak, Booda, Jerzey, Dj Real Talk and Pillz.
A-tak dropped his fourth album enitled “I Love Hip Hop” on July 26th, 2011. The reviews for this album were amazing. Although happy with the outcome, A-tak says his work is never done and he’s constantly striving to be better at his craft and in life. His next mixtape is currently untitles but is set to release sometime in September.
